Well... new to me. 1955 Triumph Thunderbird. Fully overhauled engine. Runs great and is louder then my 1700. Matching engine, frame and g/box. Its had a hardtail fitted but no cut frame. Tank is a BSA as preferred to unclutter the handlebars. Not too happy with the tbird logo on the tank....that needs to go. Had to get it by the boss as an ''investment''. ..seems to have worked ok.

Which bike ? The speedy bars are standard...but I have some flat tracker bars to go on. The bars on the old tbird I would think are non standard as the bike spent all its life in Baltimore US where it was altered to this spec.

Yeah. You just have to have a soft spot for the old ones. Without those we wouldn't have the amazing machines we have now. I just saw this one and knew I had to have it. It starts so well I might even use it as a daily run around.

Nice mate, great year too, same age as me

How's the rigid ride? Always wondered about that and if the rear end would skip around over bumps.

I'm just about out of patience with Triumph with no info on the Thunderbird's future so I'm test riding something else next week.

Surprisingly comfy to ride. I don't intend to go over the Alps or anything too much. Back end seems well planted but again .... not really for racing around.
What are you going to try out ??

I don't know if Matt had his tines repainted but I remember that color in the showroom floor in 2014 or 2015. Did triumph make different risers thru out the years?

I can't wait to see what you might choose. You must be excited. Don't forget the pics. I am guessing if it's a triumph it might be a tiger or something along that style. I don't how tall you are but I am thinking it's not going to be something along the bonnie line

Sorry to say Ray that it's not a Triumph, I had a good long look at the R3GT but even though I like it more than the R, it just doesn't get my blood going. Plus the fact that range of accessories is pathetic to say the least. Yes the Bonnie range is all too small in the frame for me, I need to be comfy, so comfort is my main priority now as my next new bike will probably be my last ( famous last words ) , I was keen on the new R18 but it has a couple of serious setbacks for long rides.

Whatever happens, the Tbird will stay, we have been through too much together to part ways.

Those are ordinary TBird bars on my Storm as they are more comfy for me. I have swapped back to the Storm risers to try the lower TBird risers on the Speedy as I have just got some flat tracker bars for that and am trying out different looks. They will be going back on the Storm.

I am sure you will have a well thought out plan. It could be painful making those decisions .
